CAA SCHOOL PREREQS · SOURCE REVIEW NOVEMBER 2, 2026

Create a CAA prerequisite tracker that handles course differences

Check the linked school and CASAA instructions for your application cycle. Requirements can change.

A prerequisite tracker works best when it connects each school requirement to a specific course and supporting evidence. A list of subjects with green checkmarks cannot explain whether your lab, course level or completion date satisfies a school's policy.

Build the tracker in two parts: a master course inventory and a school-by-school requirement map. You enter the course once, then evaluate its use separately for each program.

Create your course inventory

Record the institution, course code, exact title, term, credits, credit system, grade and delivery format. Add separate fields for laboratory content and completion date. Keep planned and in-progress courses distinct from completed courses.

Save the relevant catalog description or syllabus reference. If a laboratory is embedded in the lecture rather than listed separately, make that visible. Case Western's instructions explicitly address proof of labs that do not appear as separate transcript courses. Case Western prerequisites.

Preserve the requirement as the school states it

For each target school, record the subject, credits or semesters, lab rule, grade expectation, course age and completion deadline. Save the official link and the date you reviewed it.

Do not simplify away important wording. “Advanced statistics” and “statistics” may require different investigation. A combined anatomy and physiology sequence may need its own review instead of being assigned automatically to two rows.

Use statuses that explain the next step

Four statuses cover much of the early work:

Add a note explaining why a course is unresolved. “Lab not separately listed” is actionable. “Maybe okay” is not.

Consider this fictional example:

Requirement Course candidate Status Evidence needed
Biology with lab BIO 110 and BIO 120 Needs confirmation Catalog shows lab contact hours
Statistics STAT 101 Needs confirmation School specifies course level
Organic chemistry CHM 220 In progress Final grade and transcript
Human physiology None Not addressed Choose acceptable course

The table deliberately avoids deciding equivalency from course names alone.

Separate alternative courses from exceptions

Some schools publish explicit alternatives. Others allow an applicant to request an individual substitution. These are different situations.

Kansas City University describes a formal substitution process that may involve course descriptions, syllabi and other supporting documents. A request is therefore a task with a pending outcome, not an automatic match. KCU admissions requirements.

Store a school response with the exact course and application cycle it concerns. Preserve any conditions attached to the approval.

Check timing before enrolling

For each missing course, record when it is offered, prerequisites for enrollment, the expected completion date and when the final transcript will become available. Compare those dates with the school's rule for outstanding coursework.

A course can be academically suitable but too late for your intended entry cycle. This is why a prerequisite tracker should connect to the application timeline.

Keep an audit trail

When a school changes a requirement, retain the old version and review the affected match. Do not let a renamed row erase your notes or silently approve a different requirement.

Before submission, examine every “completed” status and ask whether you can show the supporting evidence. The tracker is most valuable when it helps you identify a precise question before that question becomes an application problem.

Read online course and lab policies and course expiration for the next layer of review.

Put this into your plan.

Keep your next steps with the schools and applications they belong to.
