Build a CV or resume for CAA school applications

Check the linked school and CASAA instructions for your application cycle. Requirements can change.

Your CAA application CV or resume should make your preparation easy to review. Begin with the document type and instructions your school requests, then select accurate details from a master experience record.

Some programs ask for a separate CV upload. The University of New Mexico lists a curriculum vitae among its program materials, for example. Check each destination rather than assuming one document format fits every application. UNM admissions.

Build one master record first

Collect your education, employment, shadowing, research, leadership, service, awards and relevant credentials. Record dates and exact names before designing the document.

Keep the master record comprehensive. Your submitted document can be shorter and tailored to the school's instructions. This prevents you from losing useful information when you remove a section from one version.

Do not label yourself a certified anesthesiologist assistant before earning that credential. Use a truthful current description of your education or application stage.

Choose a readable structure

A practical starting order is contact information, education, relevant experience, additional employment or service, research or leadership, and applicable credentials or awards.

Adjust the order to your background. A career changer with substantial work experience may need a different emphasis from an undergraduate. Follow any school-specified page or format limit.

Use consistent date formatting, clear section headings and enough spacing to scan. A complicated graphic template can make it harder to find the information the reviewer needs.

Write bullets around your actual contribution

An effective bullet often combines an action, its context and a result or responsibility that you can support.

Original fictional example:

Coordinated weekly volunteer schedules for a campus service project and maintained attendance records for the student organizers.

This is clearer than “Demonstrated exceptional leadership” because it shows the work. It also avoids inventing impact measurements.

For clinical or observation experiences, select verbs carefully. Observing a procedure is different from performing it. Assisting within a defined role is different from independently directing care.

Keep the CV consistent with CASAA

Match the dates, titles and organizations in your experience entries. If you use a shorter title for readability, make sure it still describes the same role accurately.

Maintain an explanation for any total that differs between documents. A CV might show an ongoing role while a submitted application reflects hours through a specific date. That is manageable when the date basis is clear.

Remove unsupported claims such as guaranteed proficiency, inflated responsibilities or credentials that have expired. If a credential's current status matters, record it accurately.

Use a document checklist

Before exporting, check:

Open the exported file itself. A clean editor view does not prove the exported layout is intact.

Preserve the submitted version

Save the document with its destination, cycle and submission date. Continue improving your master CV separately.

This makes future supplemental applications, interviews and reapplications easier because you can see exactly what a school received. It also helps prevent an old version from being uploaded accidentally.

Start by collecting your complete experience record, then create one simple school-compliant version. Use experience descriptions and personal-statement planning to keep your application's facts aligned.

Put this into your plan.

Keep your next steps with the schools and applications they belong to.
