CAA SCHOOL PREREQS · SOURCE REVIEW NOVEMBER 2, 2026
Research where CAAs can work before choosing a school
Where you attend an anesthesiologist assistant program and where you may later practice are separate questions. Research both before committing to a school, especially if your plans depend on returning to a particular state.
A map can help you discover places to investigate. Your decision should also use the current information from the authority responsible for practice in that jurisdiction.
Separate three kinds of location
Your planning record should distinguish the teaching campus, clinical rotation sites and possible employment locations.
A campus address does not establish where every rotation occurs. A clinical placement does not promise a job. A school's location also does not settle your individual eligibility to practice somewhere else.
Ask programs about clinical travel and relocation expectations, then research future practice destinations separately.
Use the correct source for each question
The accreditor addresses program accreditation. NCCAA addresses certification. State authorities provide jurisdiction-specific licensing or practice information.
NCCAA explains that certification follows the required accredited educational pathway and certification examination. Wisconsin's credentialing authority separately publishes an initial-licensure process, including education and certification requirements. These are related steps, not interchangeable approvals. NCCAA career pathway, Wisconsin initial licensure.
For a different state, locate that state's current official source rather than extending Wisconsin's requirements to it.
Build a dated destination worksheet
Use one row per location:
| Question | Evidence to record |
|---|---|
| What is the current authorization framework? | Official authority and source date |
| What individual credential process applies? | Current application guidance |
| Are there effective-date conditions? | Enacted rule and effective date |
| What setting am I considering? | Employer and facility information |
| What remains uncertain? | Specific question and responsible office |
Keep proposed legislation separate from rules already in effect. If you encounter a claim about a federal employment setting, investigate the rules for that setting instead of treating it as ordinary state authorization.
Distinguish authorization from job availability
A legal pathway to practice does not establish that a suitable job exists in your preferred city, schedule or facility. Job postings can help you explore the market, but they are not a substitute for credentialing information.
Record the posting date, employer, location and any stated requirements. Do not infer a guaranteed salary or offer from a small selection of advertisements.
When location is a hard constraint, examine several possible employers and preserve the uncertainty in your plan.
Connect the research to school choice
Ask whether your proposed educational and clinical schedule fits your household's relocation limits. Consider travel costs, support networks and the possibility that your preferred employment destination changes before graduation.
Make separate plans for where you will study and where you hope to work. This prevents a school decision from resting on an unverified assumption about future mobility.
If a rule is unclear or your circumstances require individual interpretation, ask the relevant authority for guidance.
Recheck at important decisions
Review your destination research before paying a substantial enrollment deposit, before a major relocation and when beginning the credentialing or employment process. Save the date of each review.
This article intentionally uses a verification method rather than an undated national state count. A useful location plan is one you can update when the underlying facts change.
Your next step is to choose your two most important future practice locations and identify the official source for each.
Use the school-list guide and attendance cost comparison to connect location with a feasible application plan.
Put this into your plan.
Keep your next steps with the schools and applications they belong to.
